Process

I began the process my studying the provided sketches, to decide which garment I wanted to start with. Given the activewear/performance oriented nature of the line, my technical sketches needed to be highly detailed to reflect the intricate construction of the garments. I decided to begin with the parka, as I could use it as a base for the puffer jacket later.

For the final segment of the process, I needed to create sketches from garments not included with the designer’s sketches- including base layers that would supplement the line of outerwear and pants. I also communicated with the designer to create a series of callouts; design details, trims, and hardware sketches zoomed in to show precise detail.

Starting with the more complicated garments allowed me to optimize my workflow throughout the process, as I would be spending more time on the outerwear garments. I communicated with the client during many of the major stages of the process to ensure that my work was aligned with her vision of the line. Some of her comments had me returning to fine-tune the shape and details of the sketches.
